He Drank the Cup for Me

Lyrics

aka What a Saviour
from Psalm 75 & Matthew 26:42
key: A; time 3/4

Verse 1
God has chosen a day to set everything right
He will judge all the nations with fairness
From the east to the west, God alone is the Judge
He lifts and He brings down

Chorus
Oh, what a Saviour! Sing praise to the Lord
He drank the cup for me
The godly will prosper, the wicked will perish
Let the redeemed praise His glorious name

Verse 2
In the hand of the Lord is the cup of His wrath
And the wicked must drink to its dregs
But for God's holy people and those who fear Him
The cup passed from us to the Lord

Verse 3
"Father, if this cup can't pass from Me unless I drink it
May Your will be done." Jesus prayed
Then He suffered and died on the cross in our place
He drank the cup for us all

Verse 4
There is no one who has not done wrong against God
Yes, we all stand condemned by our sin
Therefore we all deserve to drink of God's wrath
But, praise God, Jesus drank for us all

Bridge
Now stop all of you boasting and do not be proud
Do not raise your fist up in defiance
If you turn to the Lord and repent of your sin
He will have mercy on you
