FAQ/Permissions

1. "Is this music really free for me to use in my church or personal worship times?"

"Freely you have received, freely give."  Matthew 10:8

Most of the songs on this website are registered with Christian Copyright Licensing Inc. (CCLI), and so provided that all the original credits and copyright notices remain intact and are included, please feel free to use any of these songs for your church worship services or for your personal non-profit usage. (Please report any church-related usage with your CCLI reports.)

The CCLI License permits you to:

  • Print songs, hymns and lyrics in bulletins, programs, liturgies and songsheets for use in congregational singing.
  • Create your own customized songbooks or hymnals for use in congregational singing.
  • Create overhead transparencies, slides or use any other format whereby song lyrics are visually projected (such as computer graphics and projection) for use in congregational singing.
  • Arrange, print and copy your own arrangements (vocal and instrumental) of songs used for congregational singing, where no published version is available.
  • Record your worship services (audio or video) provided you only record live music. Accompaniment tracks cannot be reproduced. You may charge up to $4 each for audiocassette tapes and CDs, and $12 each for videotapes and DVDs.

But please don't worry-even if your church is not a member of CCLI, you may freely use this material for your church-related worship usage. Please feel free to download any of the mp3 music files for use in corporate or personal worship or as background music for your non-profit web page. The music lead sheets can be printed out for your use and enjoyment also. Please contact us if you have any other questions regarding permissions, or to seek additional permissions, such as: for-profit copying or usage, translations into another language, etc.

2.  "May I use your MP3s as background music for my web page?"

Yes.  All of the MP3s are available for download for free.  If you would like to use the MP3 files as background music for your non-profit web page, please feel free to do so but provide a link back to this site at steadyelmmusic.net and send your link to us via our contact page.

3.  "What do I need to do in order to record or use one of your songs on my independent, for-profit CD or video project?"

If you are interested in recording or using a song that is published by SteadyElm Music on an independent CD project, please download, fill out and send us a Mechanical License Request Form or fill out a form online.  For a video project, please contact us to request a Synchronization and Master Recording License.
