A Little Oil

Based on 2 Kings 4:1-7 (Holy Bible)

Once there was a widow
Who was in an awful spot.
She met up with a prophet
And explained to him her lot.

“Oh man of God, I’m asking you,
Can you help me, please?
My husband’s dead, now I’m in debt,
My sons the creditors will seize.”

He listened the story
That the widow told.  He said,
“Tell me, what do you have:
A little silver, a little gold?”

“A little oil is all I have.
How long will it last?
Kitchen cupboards once were full.
Now all of that is past.”

“Go ask your friends and neighbours
To give their jars to you.
Then in yourhouse, you and your son,
I’ll tell you what to do… “

The prophet said, “then pour the oil.
Fill the jars ‘til there’s none left.
Trust in the Lord; He will provide.
Obey and do not fret.”

The widow and her son did as the prophet said.
And much to her surprise
When all the jars were full the oil stopped,
They could hardly believe their eyes.

The Lord God is a faithful God,
He helps the suffering ones.
All of our needs He will supply
And we will want for none.
